Omar has technically been in the industry since 2010, but jokes he “came out of the womb doing AV”. Growing up, his dad took him to ballroom set-ups or brought him swag when he couldn’t tag along. Even when he was little, Omar knew he wanted to be a Video Engineer. He committed to learning everything he could about each position in the live events industry because he thought that was what a video engineer had to do. Omar has loaded trucks, ran shows, did switching, projection, LED, camera operating, shading, and Media Servers. Being part of “Generation AV,” he understands all the products and positions needed to create a great event. His military background makes him a thoughtful and detailed teacher for the academy. When he works events, you can find him at video village, or learning what he can from stagehands. If he’s not working he’s reading, going to the gym, or running his non-profit. He also loves to show his daughter the places he’s done events at, like his dad did with him.
Omar’s Day to Day
Omar’s main responsibility is our academy. This includes creating documentation, managing budgets, scheduling, and all aspects of teaching our classes. He prides himself on “going down the rabbit hole” to find new ways to teach students. You can also occasionally find Omar at an event, working as a technician for Evolve. He uses shows to keep a pulse on the industry and adapt educational information. He’s always open to having a conversation with a live event technicians. This keeps Evolve ahead of the curve. He’s also regularly reading about innovations in the live events industry. His favorite kind of events are art and functionality events, projection mapping, and 3D projection mapping. He loves working on unique projects with custom solutions and organizations pushing the box to create one of a kind experience in their event. His most memorable gig at Evolve was working as a projectionist for a 48 projector blend that spanned from the ground to the ceiling.
