Hi, this is Eli Leffel and welcome to ProCon where we compare professional and consumer grade equipment to bring awareness to the live events industry. This time, we’re comparing professional video cameras with consumer ones. Let’s start with the elephant in the room. What does a consumer video camera look like?
Well, looks like this or what? We’re recording this video with A D S L R. Here’s a fun thought. My son valent is almost 11, and I’m confident he’s only ever recorded a video on his cell phone. He’d probably think that an old VHS shoulder mounted recording device is a sting punk ara mouse. The big benefit of these consumer level recorders is that they’re ultimately convenience.
You can always have them with you and they’re easy to travel with. File compression and storage can be cloud-based, so you don’t have to worry about data dump or data loss. Land swaps or a breeze and done on the fly, and their quality can be top-notch, even used by professionals. But when it comes time to pay the bills, the big bills, you’ll need a camera with some weight behind it.
Something not so easy to fit in your pocket. Professional cameras used in sports broadcast and cinema can be quite bulky depending on the setup. The largest part of that bulk is also the biggest pro. They’re lensing. Highly specialized lenses can be attached depending on the need, but often these are very large to allow for huge zoom ranges with great focus features such as our 99 by lenses.
Swapping lenses is no easy fe though, so bring a stage hand. Another primary differentiator is the CCC at R C P. These add great functionality and allow a technician to control and shade the camera while operator focuses on following their target. It would be nearly impossible to follow a golf ball driven from the tee and still adjust focus iris and other settings acceptably for tv.
These cameras and CCUs have other powerful features like trunking, comms, XF data, and so much more. But despite all the differences, rest assured that your latest gen smartphone. Is doing an amazing job at capturing life’s most unforgettable moments. But if you need to video as CEO type, running across a poorly lit stage and keep it looking perfect, evolve has the cameras for you.
